Nike is a multinational corporation with headquarters in the United States, but it also has offices and factories around the world. It’s one of the most popular clothing and shoe brands in the world. The company’s founder, Phil Knight, assembled a team that built up Nike from an idea to one of the biggest sports companies in existence. And they did it all without ever giving up their original logo. Nike’s logo is instantly recognizable even though its design has evolved over time. But what does it look like? And why do people love it so much? Read on to find out!

Nike History Section
Nike was founded in 1964 by Phil Knight, Bill Bowerman, and Geoff Hollister. It all started when Knight, a former track-and-field athlete at the University of Oregon, got frustrated with his shoes. He had trouble finding a pair that could handle the spikes he needed for competition. He had an idea: Why not make his own?

Knight’s first step was to call on Bill Bowerman—a University of Oregon track-and-field coach who also coached the U.S. Olympic team during four years—to help him design the perfect shoe for both running track and field events as well as other sports like soccer or basketball.

The two spent months designing the perfect shoe, testing it with their athletes. But they still needed a name for their new venture. They named it Nike, which is derived from the Greek goddess of victory—Nike being her name and win meaning triumph or success in Greek. The legend behind this decision is that Knight was able to persuade his former professor from college to give up his last name due to its similarity to “Nike.”

After naming their company Nike, Knight and Bowerman set out to find a way to produce their shoes efficiently on a mass scale. They found what they were looking for in Japanese manufacturer Onitsuka Tiger Co., Ltd., who made lightweight canvas shoes with rubber soles especially for sports brands like Adidas and Puma at the time.

And that’s how Nike

Why Does the Nike Logo Stand Out
?

Nike’s logo is instantly recognizable because it has a very strong visual. The black and white color palette makes it easy to read, and the swoosh itself comes in a variety of colors. The swoosh is iconic and immediately lets the viewer know what the company is all about: sports and fitness. It’s also very simple, which makes it an easily identifiable symbol that stands out from other logos.
